Gridiron Roundup

"Gridiron Roundup" was an all-school cookout held by GC during the first week of the fall semester.  A "Get Acquainted" party, it was the highlight of "CUBOFN Week" (Call Us By Our First Names).  We believe it originated in the late 1940's or early '50s.  It was held for many years, at least until 1976 when the photo below was taken.  Thanks to Lamar Barnett '77 for the photo.  Lamar has requested Roy Lacey '75 tell us how he "lost his eyebrows."

Garland Farmer '41,  sent the following memory of the 1939 CUBOFN picnic, which may be the precursor to The Gridiron Roundup. I remembered the beginning of my Jr. year (I believe it was). A picnic was held at the lake to welcome the incoming Freshmen, and it was called CUBOFN:  Call Us By Our First Names.  I took as my date Ayleene Cotton.  The next edition of The Haymaker reported that at CUBOFN  "Farmer was cultivating Cotton".

We need any background information, such as; When was Roundup first held?  Who created it?  When did it cease?

If you have any photographs, that would be great.

Memories, great or small, tame or outrageous are welcome.
